At 99 years old, Dick Van Dyke attributes his good health to his commitment to working out three days a week.
“I’ve always exercised, three days a week,” the legendary Mary Poppins star shared on the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast on Wednesday.
Van Dyke explained that his routine involves a lot of stretching and yoga, alongside using various gym machines for a full-body workout.
The iconic actor believes his active lifestyle may be the key to his vitality, which sets him apart from others of his age.
Van Dyke was spotted leaving the gym just before his 98th birthday in 2023 with his wife, Arlene Silver. He jokingly mentioned that Silver, 53, encourages him to work out, although he “hates” it.
On Wednesday’s podcast, Van Dyke also excitedly talked about his plans to celebrate his 100th birthday on December 13, 2025. He shared that he intends to throw a “big party” to mark the milestone.
His upcoming birthday celebrations will be a far cry from the quiet gathering he had for his 99th birthday. In a previous appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Van Dyke revealed that he planned to “hide out” for his 99th birthday and possibly invite his children over.
During that interview, he humorously remarked that he was “very old,” joking that he was “old enough to be” the father of former President Joe Biden, 82.
“Dementia. I get dementia once in a while,” he quipped. “Like right now, I think I’m on the Jimmy Kimmel show.”
Van Dyke has four children—Christian, 74, Barry, 73, Stacy, 69, and Carrie Beth, 62—from his previous marriage to Margie Willett, who passed away in 2008. The couple was married from 1948 to 1984.
